Orthodontics For The Whole Family

Traditionally, orthodontic care was offered to children in their early teens, once their adult teeth had developed.  Now days, orthodontic treatment is undertaken by people of all age groups as an informed way to correct a range of oral health problems.

Not all children require orthodontic treatment but early assessment and intervention can reduce treatment time and expense.  Early treatment may also eliminate the need for fixed braces by the time your child reaches high school years.  At Brunswick Dental Group, we recommend that parents schedule an assessment appointment around age 7 or 8, following the emergence of your child’s first adult molar teeth.

Teenagers usually begin orthodontic treatment following the eruption of adult teeth, between 11 and 13.  By exerting constant light pressure, corrective appliances will gradually move the teeth to the desired position.  This treatment may involve several phases and various appliances designed to achieve optimum results.

There are many benefits associated with having orthodontic treatment as an adult.  The enhanced appearance and self-confidence of having beautifully straightened teeth is only the beginning.

Other benefits of having orthodontic care at Brunswick Dental Group are:

  • Correct crooked teeth and close gaps
  • Improve the ability to effectively clean and maintain a healthy mouth
  • Reduction of tooth wear and grinding due to a balanced occlusion (bite)
  • In preparation for restorative dentistry such as implants or bridges
  • To resolve muscle/joint tension and pain associated with malocclusion (unbalanced bite)

Orthodontics extends beyond the benefit of having an attractive straight smile.  Misaligned teeth can be difficult to clean effectively which results in tooth decay, gum disease, possible tooth and bone loss.  By using orthodontics, you can ensure that your bite, mouth and jaws are correctly aligned and work harmoniously so you can achieve and maintain the best standards of oral health.
